Brown Cuckoo-Dove

I don’t know how common the Brown Cuckoo-Dove is in Eurobodalla but it is new to me. This one appeared in our garden this morning and flew onto the verandah to have a closer look at us.

Hi Roman – they are listed in "Nature in Eurobodalla 2013" as an uncommon breeding resident and bird of passage. A beautiful bird and very common at the birdbaths on our bush block. I counted 34 on Monday picking at the finch mix (a couple of cups) I put out. Usually 10 – 20 most mornings.  They do become habituated and you can walk amongst them. The Wongas that come are more wary but I have seen them habituated to close conact in Barrington Tops National Park. Finch mix is of zero interest to any parrots that visit us.

Hi John, thanks for the feedback. It looks like they are not that uncommon after all :-)
